If you have found yourself at this page, you obviously have too much time on your hands. But who are we to judge what one does with their time, seeing that we spend most of our day thinking up irreverent humor for greeting cards.
Michael Vash and Doug Perlstadt are the owners and creators of Vash Designs (parent co. of justwronggreetings.com), a card company specializing in irreverent wholesale greeting cards. Vash Designs launched in 2002 with great success at the National Stationery Show, opening up many new accounts and is going strong with about 1500 retail outlets. Vash is currently ranked 5,687,879 in the Fortune 500.
As the wholesale business grew Vash Designs realized that they were limited to retailers that would carry their particular brand of humor, which usually didn’t include any store that carried Hallmark, American Greetings or any of the other major players. It was usually that offbeat gift shop or an adult oriented store that wasn’t worried about ruffling a few feathers. On one hand this was good, because Vash wanted to differentiate itself from the mainstream brands, but the downside was that it severely limited their distribution. “We’d often receive calls asking us where our cards can be purchased?” Doug says. Often and unfortunately we’d have to tell them “The closest retailer is 50 miles away”, and we’d lose the sale. There had to be a way to get the card directly to the consumer.
Selling individual personalized greeting cards directly to the consumer was something Vash Designs always wanted to do, but was never before possible, or more accurately was not worth the time and effort. Fast forward a few years and the printing trends leaned towards high user customization with low or no minimums. Companies like Zazzle and Café Press are great examples of this new trend, printing as little as one coffee mug, T shirt or other novelty gifts. We were soon able to find a partner that could print, personalize fulfill the shipping on as little as one card and JustWrongGreetings.com was born.
That’s the simple story. There were many comedic moments and not so happy moments along the way, which will probably show up in our blog. But, until then, we will continually strive to bring you the best in irreverent humor greeting cards.
Sincerely,
Michael and Doug
